Snow WABDR

TDC made a mid-October partial Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR) run, just for fun. With snow at higher elevations, this trek was one to remember for a lifetime! As always, more fun was had camping once the beers and tequilas started flowing freely.

The #sunlight ran out before we found a #campsite on the first night of our #wabdr run. The ridge north of #ellensburg offers a #greatview . The #battery ran out on the #yamaha #ttr125l front light, so finding a site in the dark was #extrafun . Good thing @rsctakeover @rmooreid and @motobum101 had #workingheadlights .

Section 3 of the #wabdr was a little #snowy and #icey . The #yamaha #ttr125l did a great job #keepingtherubbersidedown when others #werentsolucky . #tinytires and a #125cc engine blew away the #bigbikes . I know @motobum101 @rsctakeover and @rmooreid had fun anyway.

Tahuya... Piglet in the Woods

MotoBum and Ghostface KLR returned to Tahuya State Forest on Sunday, April 30, 2017, just three weeks after the previous ride. With a planned late start of 2pm to coincide with the tail end of the B.C.M.C. Spark Plug Enduro happening earlier that day, the plan was to ride some of the Enduro course. That happened. To the Nth degree.

No ride incidents, wrecks, or disasters were had. Amazingly.

The subcrew encountered a stuffed Piglet (of Winnie-the-Pooh fame) bungee corded to a tree. What?

Tahuya... Mud, Crashes, and a Gorilla

Ghostface KLR and MotoBum rode Tahuya State Forest on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Riding after a series of rainstorms, it was a foregone conclusion that the ride would be taken in the highlands only. Less than 10 minutes in, MotoBum got stuck in deep water and mud past both axles, forcing the WR250F to stall mid-swamp.*

Later, MotoBum took a corner too high and let the front end wash out, spilling directly down the trail with the WR250F trapping said body. Luckily, Ghostface KLR was not far behind and saved the day by removing the motorcycle from MotoBum. Days later, the left ribs and shoulder were still sore, but nothing seemed to be broken.

Ghostface KLR decided that larger diameter grips are in order for future rides; his hands were pretty sore from hanging on to his high-powered death machine by the end of the ride.

*Yamaha WR250Fs of a certain era have a poor engine design where the rocker cover breather hose vents to just below the bottom frame rail; if venting is obstructed in any way, the engine will stall.

TDC MTB

2016 marks the year that TDC went silent and unplugged -- with full suspension mountain bikes.

Out on a one-night, rainy, motorcycle camp, while sitting around the evening fire, Ghostface KLR declared that he was ordering up a relatively unknown brand of bicycle, Bulls, from the Internet. Untested and based on the spec-sheet alone, plus reviews read, MotoBum ordered one at the same time as Ghostface the next night. Last Minute Ryan went so far as to quickly sell his beloved 1982 Yamaha XT250 that weekend in order to make a Bulls purchase himself. His "all mountain" bicycle arrived only a couple of days after the first two.



The dirt bikes didn't disappear overnight, but the trail ahead was clear: The Dirty Crew had found its next chapter, and it had 27.5-inch wheels.

Pullman Run

MotoBum and Ghostface KLR took an intrastate run to Pullman on a three-night road ride, Saturday April 16 - Tuesday, April 19. Technically, it was an ADVenture ride as eight miles of the trip was on a hard pack dirt road. MotoBum's F4i hooked up so well on it, it was able to pull power wheelies!

The trek was about seeing Pullman, a historic site for MotoBum and Ghostface KLR for various reasons. Shortly before MotoBum was MotoBum, he'd spend two grand years living in Pullman attending Washington State University. And long before Ghostface KLR was Ghostface KLR, he'd spent nearly a decade there growing up. It'd been a decade since MotoBum was there and almost three decades since Ghostface KLR was there. What had changed? Did it still feel the same?

Mount Pilchuck

MotoBum and Last Minute Ryan (LMR) took a dual sport day up to Mt. Pilchuck on Friday, 4/8/16. Mt. Pilhchuck is located up the Mountain Loop Highway, just outside of Granite Falls a bit.

The dirt road up was fun. Half way up, the road was closed to cars. It was only motorbikes and hikers up to the spectacular views.

Higher up the mountain from the views, the snowline was hit. While unphotodocumented, MotoBum rode a section of slushy ice, which ended up in near disaster, but he saved it with outrigger feet, barely.

Later, after much fun was had coming down the mountain , Last Minute Ryans's 701 Enduro ended up with a nail in the rear tire, rendering the bike useless, only to be retrieved near 11pm with his truck near the top of the Mountain Loop Highway.

LMR was able to fix his tire on the weekend... with a large tire iron and shot of tequila.
